Frank Petrigliano, MD is a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon and a specialist in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the UCLA Orthopaedic Center in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Petrigliano focuses highly on shoulder arthroscopy and replacements as well as knee arthroscopy and repairs, and only uses the most advanced orthopaedic surgical procedures available.
Before attending medical school, Dr. Petrigliano finished his undergraduate studies at Cornell University in New York. He then went on to earn his doctor of medicine degree from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers in New Jersey. During this time Dr. Petrigliano found his true passion in orthopaedic surgery and went on to complete his residency in this specialty at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).
To further his expertise, Dr. Petrigliano completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. During his fellowship, Dr. Petrigliano was the assistant team physician for the New Jersey Nets and Iona College athletic teams. He also served as a medical consultant for the United States Tennis Association and the U.S. Open. Currently, Dr. Petrigliano is the assistant team physician for the UCLA athletic department and head team physician for UCLA baseball, men’s soccer, and women’s gymnastics.
As an innovative orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Petrigliano specializes in treating sports injuries. He has extensive training in knee, shoulder, and elbow repairs, using minimally invasive procedures. Because Dr. Petrigliano wants to offer his patients the latest in orthopaedic techniques and procedures, he continues to stay involved in clinical and laboratory research — including authoring multiple peer-reviewed research articles. His laboratory focuses on developing stem cell and biologic treatments for rotator cuff and knee ligament injury.
